Ford cars will obey road speed regulations
New cars are very safe, but still, too many accidents happen! Maybe the solution is Ford’s idea to make cars safer. The new feature will automatically reduce speed when a car detects a road speed sigh. It will adjust the speed accordingly to that particular sign. This feature can be activated from a steering wheel, and can be overridden by pressing (firmly) the accelerator. Although, this sounds great, some experts are saying that this is just a waste of time! It is possible to send speed restrictions directly to a car, which will completely eliminate the need for a road signs. By using this, cars can communicate, which means one car can warn another that it will reduce speed.
This system is called Intelligent Speed Limiter. When it detects a road sign, it will warn a driver via read-out in the center of the speedometer. Intelligent Speed Limiter will be available on Ford’s S-Max in Europe, this August. Very soon we can see this system on other Ford’s models. Although, it sounds futuristic, this system is a combination of two systems that are already fitted on cars.
Adjustable speed limiters are sensors in the car’s wheels. They can determine the current speed of a car, and limit it, by reducing the amount of fuel that goes into the engine. The driver can override this system by pressing the accelerator pedal to the floor, letting him overtake another vehicle. The second system is traffic sign recognition. This is a small camera, that scan the surroundings of a car and detects road signs. Drivers can set up this system to allow higher speed than road speed restriction by 5mph (8km/h).
