We May Be Closer To Driverless Cars
Mercedes-Benz has revealed their plans for a futuristic car that does not require a driver. On January 5th, the company participated in the International CES showcase for consumer electronics, and announced its plan for the F 015, a car that drives itself.
The description of the futuristic car is like something out of a sci-fi flick or spy thriller. The F 015 features seats that mimc an office chair's swivel motion, while an internal system in the car senses when someone approaches the car. The F 015 can even display a projection of pedestrian crosswalks onto the street to assist someone who is walking by.
The F 015 will take a cue from our already tech-crazed society and use touchscreens in its interior. These devices will be installed throughout the car, being accessible to the driver and passengers. The car will also be powered by hydrogen fuel cells, which will constitute 80 percent of the car's efficiency.
Of course, being Mercedes-Benz, the F 015 will have a sexy and sleek design. The question is whether the world is ready for a driverless car. A speaker for Mercedes-Benz acknowledged that there is still a need for more research on driverless cars, but now is the time to think about and plan their design.
Even so, it is fun to imagine when this car will be available to us common folk. The F 015 sounds like a mini mobile-home where drivers can relax and do something enjoyable while the car drivers itself around.
